“That looks good,” I remarked to Jay. “The color combinations are good.” Jay paused a little and had a bewildered look on his face. “Really?” He looked taken aback by my comment.
Jay and I were all alone in our college club’s office and were coloring flyers that will be distributed around the college. “Really,” I said, “I would have never thought of the color combinations but they work.”
Jay continued coloring, took a deep breath and said, “Thanks, I am colorblind that’s why I was surprised by your remark.”
It was my turn to be surprised and told him I would have never suspected that. We continued coloring the flyers as our conversation turned to how he picks clothes to wear every day and other things he does when faced with color options.
All hues, shade, tint, and tone
In recent years, a pair of eyeglasses called EnChroma® was invented. Colorblind people can now see colors as they are meant to be seen.
There are many testimonials of how people’s lives have been changed and several dramatic moments of people seeing color for the first time can be viewed online. Color blindness vary from not being able to see red, green, or blue light thereby not being able to distinguish between purple, yellow, brown, and orange to absolutely seeing only variations of gray, black, and white.
I cannot imagine being able to see parts of shades of different colors. How can one fully appreciate “burgundy red”, “sunburst yellow”, “midnight blue”, or “royal purple”? Most of the time, that’s how we see each other.
We see in part, a side, a reaction, of a person and then make our judgements and conclusions about who that person is.
Sometimes, we’ll only meet people once and will never see them again, however, there are those we encounter on a regular basis. We get to see their different sides and as time goes by have a better appreciation of who they are.
He doesn't miss anything about you
On the other hand, our Father in heaven has always seen us for who we truly are. From the moment we were conceived, He already knew what we were going to be. He knew what our first words will be and how we’ll do in school. He also knew our favorite food and any food allergies we have. He knew how we’ll respond to tragedy and loss, and how we’ll handle triumph and success.
God thinks of us every single moment of our lives and not once has taken or will ever take His eyes off us. We think we know ourselves but our Father knows us for what we truly are because He sees us completely and not partly.
Ask Him and He'll show you
Sometimes, life events change us dramatically and we think that parts of us have been damaged or hurt beyond repair.
We feel out of sync or imbalanced. We become “colorblind” to who we are and what we are capable of still doing and live a life that is drab and wearisome, which makes us wonder if this is all there is to be because it doesn’t make sense.
In our Father’s great love for us, He helps us see what He sees in us. His “EnChroma®” glasses for us are His words, His marvelous creation, and the people He surrounded us with. Most importantly, His Holy Spirit reveals to us first who God is, then who we are, and finally what He has in store for us.
There is no formula or system here. All we need to do is ask. He will show us who we are and in full color reveal His master plan for us until finally everything makes sense.
