I Am Not a Robot

Updated: Nov 30, 2020

Have you ever heard of Pepper, Lynx, Buddy, Miko, Paro, Vortex, and Jibo? They are some of what are considered to be the best companion robots¹ available in the world as of this moment.

Robots do not have free will.
Aren't you glad you are not programmed on command like this robot?

These creations of plastic, metal, rubber, glass, and other synthetic materials have tons of data uploaded into their operating system with each robot built to address specific human needs.

In the case of Lynx², parents can use the bot to watch, listen to, hug, or kiss their kids for them. Lynx has Alexa built in it, too. If you don’t know who Alexa is, it is Amazon’s virtual personal assistant that does things on command, i.e. search the internet, listen to music, control electronic products at home, etc. The bottom line is robots were made to make life easier for us humans.

Hi, I'm Dusty!

Dust, the fine particles of earth, and the breath of Life, on the other hand, are the two components that God used to create the first man. From the man, God took a rib and created the first woman. There was no data downloaded but they were made in the image and likeness of God.

Pause. Let that sink in for a moment. We are made in the image and likeness of God. For many, this is something that flies over their heads. For some, it is something to think about, and yet for a significant number of people it is an amazing truth that gives freedom and confidence to live lives that are channels of God’s goodness and love.

We’re looking here at the point of our creation. When we move further into history and get into what Jesus Christ has done in relation to that, you’ll be blown away.

The "God qualities" within us

You see, the truth of our origins being made in the image and likeness of God, was distorted throughout the ages because of Adam and Eve's sin.

We moved further and further away from God willingly choosing to believe what the serpent (satan) is saying, and decidedly put on “clothing” that detracts us from who we are. Trying to achieve and focus on beauty, fashion style, physical strength and wellness, intellectual pursuits, fortune, accolades, and power have led us away from God, the only source of our true selves.

Let’s take a look at His qualities which He has put in us (from 2 Peter 1:1-8): grace, peace, absolutely everything necessary for a dynamic spiritual life and godliness, precious and magnificent promises of inexpressible value, moral excellence, knowledge (insight, understanding), self-control, steadfastness, godliness, brotherly affection, and Christian love (unselfishly seeking the best for others and to do things for their benefit).

With the falsehood and barrier created by sin, someone needed to show us how to live those qualities. Jesus Christ showed us that He is the way, the truth, and the life, and no one can come to the Father except through Him. By trusting in Jesus, we can ask for God’s forgiveness for our sins. Everything that the Father has created in us from the beginning is unlocked, and we begin to live as we truly are.

Wait, there’s more! We also gain access to more than 3,000 promises of God! Whew! I’d gladly remove all my old “clothes” any day and be only what God intended me to be.

Uhm, it's hard to live like God

What if we are having difficulties living those “God qualities”? The answer is we may have simply forgotten that we are already cleansed from our old sins (2 Peter 1:9).

We need to always remember that God loves us and chose us. We are to be intentional because the only way to develop those qualities is to live them. Giving up is always the easy route but if we choose to live them then we avoid stumbling and reverting to living the old life.

Robots were invented to fulfill specific human needs and obey on command. Our Father created us so we can be like Him and enjoy everything that He made for us. He also gave us free will or the ability to choose to follow Him or not. If you think about it, God gave us all that He had including His only Son Jesus Christ. How can we not love and follow Him after that?

Our identity lies in God through His Son Jesus Christ. There are many more qualities and promises that we have yet to discover as we live our new life.

Let's help and encourage each other.
"Therefore, believers, be all the more diligent to make certain about His calling and choosing you [be sure that your behavior reflects and confirms your relationship with God]; for by doing these things [actively developing these virtues], you will never stumble [in your spiritual growth and will live a life that leads others away from sin];" 2 Pet 1:10 (AMP)
